Student Services (ISSO) New Student Scholarship<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>The ISSO will award two (2) $1000 competitive scholarship to
a new first semester international student at Texas A&M University-
Commerce this spring semester 2011. Students concluding Optional Practical
Training employment and enrolling in a new degree program will be eligible for
the scholarship. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Students matriculating to begin a new degree, continuing
with a second degree at the same education level immediately after completion
of first degree, or applying for a change of visa status will not be eligible.
English Language Institute students are not eligible for the scholarship. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;color:red;background:yellow;
mso-highlight:yellow'>Applications for the scholarship <i><u>WILL ONLY BE

international advisor <i><u>PRIOR</u></i> to international student orientation
during the available dates and times as stated on the <i>New International

<p class=MsoNormal><b><u>ISSO Scholarship Award<o:p></o:p></u></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>The two (2) spring recipients of the scholarship will be
awarded the full $1000 for the spring 2011 semester and will be eligible for
the in-state tuition waiver the spring 2011 semester and summer 2011 semester
if they chose to enroll summer. Only two (2) scholarship will be awarded for
the spring 2011 semester and the scholarship is not renewable the 2011-2012
academic year. Scholarship award recipients will be announced during
international student orientation and the recipients must be present or the
award will be forfeited. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><b><u>Eligibility<o:p></o:p></u></b></p>
<ul style='margin-top:0in' type=disc>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must be an F-1 visa
international student at the time of application and have not applied for
permanent residency or had an H1-B visa petition filed on their behalf.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must complete check-in
with an international advisor <i><u>prior</u></i> to international student
orientation during the available dates and times as stated on the <i>New
International Student Checklist.</i> <o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must attend <b><u>all</u></b>
sessions of international student orientation and be present to accept
award or award will be forfeited.<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must be enrolled in at
least twelve (12) semester credit hours as an undergraduate student or
nine (9) semester credit hours as a graduate student. There are no
special requirements for students enrolling in the summer. <o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must maintain a 3.0 GPA<o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must be in good academic
and disciplinary standing with the university <o:p></o:p></li>
<li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1'>Must be in good financial
standing with the university<o:p></o:p></li>

<p class=MsoNormal><b><u>Application Process<o:p></o:p></u></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Student must <b><i><u>complete</u></i></b> check-in with an
international advisor in the ISSO, Halladay 104, <b><i><u>prior</u></i></b> to
international student orientation during the available dates and times as
stated on the <i>New International Student Checklist.</i> <i><o:p></o:p></i></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><b><u><span style='font-size:12.0pt;color:red;background:
yellow;mso-highlight:yellow'>Applications will only be provided during the
check-in sessions prior to international student orientation and all
applications must be returned to the ISSO in Halladay 104 no later than 12pm
noon (CST) on the final day of early check-in (the day before international
student orientation) as stated on the <i>New International Student Checklist.</i>
Any applications received after 12pm noon (CST) on the final day of early
check-in will not be considered.</span></u></b><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt'>

<p class=MsoNormal><b><u>Selection Process<o:p></o:p></u></b></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Selection of scholarship recipient will be based on answers
to questions and essay questions in application. Preference will be given to
students who provide well thought out, meaningful, and original responses,
correct English grammar, and legible handwriting. It is recommended that
students type their essay response on a separate sheet of paper. Scholarship
award recipient will be announced during international student orientation and
the recipient must be present or the award will be forfeited. <b><span
style='color:black'>Applicants who plagiarize from another applicant will be
automatically ineligible.</span></b> <o:p></o:p></p>
