[NewIntlStudents] Health insurance for A&M-Commerce International Students

[New International Students]

The A&M System requires all international students to enroll in the
System Student Health Insurance Plan (SSHIP) unless they meet one of the
limited waiver exemptions found at
http://policies.tamus.edu/26-99-01.pdf on page 2 and 3.  

 

Students do not need to purchase a separate health insurance plan for
their studies at A&M-Commerce.  For information about the health
insurance plan go to
https://www.academichealthplans.com/tamuc/2013-2014/.   There are no
exceptions to the mandatory enrollment and outside health insurance WILL
NOT be accepted unless the student meets one of the waiver exemptions
allowed by the A&M System.  

 

The A&M System recently changed health insurance providers so the
process for the health insurance will change this fall semester.  The
International Student Services Office is finalizing the process over the
next couple of weeks and we will provide more information by early
August.  

 

How will the health insurance coverage work?

*         All international students will be automatically enrolled in
the SSHIP at  the beginning of the semester

*         The insurance premium will be a separate charge to a student's
account and the estimated cost for the fall insurance for new students
is $695

*         Students who meet one of the allowed waiver exemptions will be
required to report their information to the SSHIP provider (process is
being finalized)

*         Payment for the insurance premium is required by 12th class
day

*         Students will be able to access their insurance information
via the SSHIP website and this process is being finalized

 

If you have any questions please contact the ISSO.  As a reminder, the
mandatory enrollment in the SSHIP is an A&M-System wide requirement and
only students who meet one of the allowed waivers will be exempted from
enrollment in the SSHIP.
