[NewIntlStudents] Students living on-campus- PLEASE READ!

[New International Students]

All new international students for the fall 2011 semester who are
considering living in on-campus housing please see below.  If there is
any chance that you may live in on-campus housing we would strongly
recommend having the vaccination to avoid any delays in being eligible
to move into on-campus housing.  

 

THERE ARE NO OTHER VACCINATIONS REQUIRED BY THE UNIVERSITY FOR
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.  

 

Texas state law requires all new students (international and domestic)
living in on-campus housing to either provide proof of vaccination for
bacterial meningitis or provide the official exemption form listed below
prior to being allowed to move into on-campus housing.  Please see the
attached Evidence of Vaccination Against Bacterial Meningitis form for
more information on the state law and for the vaccination form.  

 

Students have two options:

1.      The ISSO STRONGLY recommends students receive the bacterial
meningitis shot PRIOR to arriving in the U.S. if they are even thinking
about living on-campus.  If students wait until they arrive in the U.S.
to receive the vaccination they will not be allowed to move into
on-campus housing until 10 days from the date of the vaccination and the
university DOES NOT provide temporary housing for students.   You will
need to have your doctor complete the attached Evidence of Vaccination
Against Bacterial Meningitis  form if you chose to have the vaccination
in your home country.   For more information or to submit your proof of
vaccination please go to 
http://web.tamu-commerce.edu/studentLife/housing/default.aspx.  DO NOT
SUBMIT YOUR PROOF OF VACCINATION TO THE ISSO.    

2.      Students may chose to request an exemption from the vaccination
requirement.  Please see the attached Bacterial Meningitis Exemption
form for instructions.
