[NewIntlStudents] Important changes this fall for international students...

[New International Students]

Just to remind all new international students this fall 2010 semester,
there have been some changes involving insurance, check-in, and
orientation this fall semester:

*         THERE WILL BE NO CHECK-IN ON THE DAY OF ORIENTATION.  Check-in
will begin this Wednesday, August 18 and go through Wednesday, August 25
(closed Saturday and Sunday).  The times to check-in will be from 9-11am
and 2-4pm in Halladay 104.  Please go to

ap.pdf for a map of campus.  STUDENTS WHO WISH TO APPLY FOR THE ISSO NEW
STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP MUST COMPLETE CHECK-IN BY 11AM ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST
25.  Applications are due by 12pm Noon on Wednesday, August 25 and
applications will only be given to students once they complete check-in.


 

*         NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS THIS FALL SEMESTER WILL NOT BE
REQUIRED TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY ONCE THEY ARRIVE
IN THE U.S.  The ISSO will work with the A&M System insurance company to
make sure you are enrolled and your health insurance policy will begin
the first day of class, August 30.  Please go to www.tamuinsurance.com
for more information.  You will be billed for your semester insurance
premium , tentatively $274, through your student account and you will be
required to pay this premium by the 20th day of class.  

 

*         NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION WILL BE LOCATED IN THE
PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.   Please go to

ap.pdf for a map of campus.  Orientation will BEGIN at 8:30am and it is
strongly recommended you arrive at 8:15am to register and receive your
packet.  DO NOT BE LATE!  Refreshments will be provided.  Students need
to plan to be in sessions or on-campus activities until 5pm.  This fall
the ISSO is also tentatively sponsoring a FREE lunch for NEW
international students in the student center from 12pm Noon to 1pm
featuring the new vegetarian/international menu from the on-campus food
service, Sodexho.  University faculty and staff from different
departments, the Deans of the colleges, and the President will be in
attendance at the luncheon to welcome you.
