MUSIC FOR THE FAMILY

Willam Scobie, Baroque Violin/Modern Violin

William Scobie will be performing at the Northeast Texas Children's
Museum on Friday, July 6 at 11:00 AM. The program, Music for the Family,
is a unique program for solo violin. A thirty minute presentation for
ages 3 to 103, it includes music identifiable for each audience member
with repertoire ranging from Bach (played on period instrument) to
special arrangements of children's songs.

A unique aspect of this presentation is Mr. Scobie's use of an authentic
reproduction of a 1620 Maggini violin and appropriate bows from the
Baroque era. Audiences are especially interested in his discussion of
the differences and similarities between the ancient and modern tools of
music making.

His conversational style of presentation lends an informal atmosphere to
this performance. A brief question and answer period and some group
singing are sometimes included.

William Scobie, Violinist

Formally a Texas Touring Artist Roster recitalist and residency
specialist, William Scobie creates with his audiences an ambience of
both excitement and artistic realization which has garnered such
critical acclaim as "extremely musical...the concert was professionally
presented to the last detail...a most enjoyable musical experience."

William Scobie studied violin with Richard Burgin, who was then the
concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, at the New England
Conservatory of Music in Boston. As a result of the Saint Louis
Symphony Prize Competition, Mr. Scobie's professional career began with
the Saint Louis Little Symphony in the summer of 1958. During his
tenure as Assistant Concertmaster of the Tulsa Philharmonic Society, he
was Leader and First Violinist of the Tulsa Philharmonic String Quartet
and appeared often in solo recital. After serving as Assistant
Professor of Music at Millikin University, where he was a member of the
Millikin Trio and the Conductor of the Millikin-Civic Orchestra, he was
appointed to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In September of 2011,
Scobie retired from the DSO after 42 years of service. He continues to
perform, both on Baroque and modern violin.

William Scobie's exciting recording, "Musical Visions", includes the
world premier of William Horne's Sonata for Violin and Piano as well as
the Sonata for Violin and Piano, Opus 82, by Edward Elgar and music by
Ponce, Massenet and Hooten. Mr. Scobie's new recording, "Echoes of
Dreams", features Easy Listening All-Time Favorites such as Serenade by
Schubert, Humoresque by Dvorak, Estrellita by Ponce, Spanish Dance by
Moskowsky, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, Brahms'
Lullaby and Mr. Scobie's own arrangements of Danny Boy, Greensleeves and
The Little Dustman.

Mr. Scobie also writes and publishes educational materials for young
violinists. These publications, as well as his recordings, are
available on his Web Site (www.scobiemusic.com).
