Speaker: Levi Armstrong, Psy.D., M.S. PsyPharm

Dr. Levi Armstrong is a Licensed Psychologist, Clinical & Forensic Lifespan Neuropsychologist in Private Practice, and a Graduate Professor at Amberton University (Counseling Division).

For the past several years, mental health treatment providers across the globe have witnessed and heroically responded to what has become an exponential increase in patient referrals seeking assessment of and treatment for suspected ADHD symptoms. Undoubtedly, this is related to the general expansion in our society's awareness of ADHD (and all things mental health) via front-page politics, news media, popular social media apps and so-called "influencers," and increased and expanding access to online mental health assessment and treatment from a variety of providers. In the highly dynamic and rapidly changing post-COVID world and culture (and with the addition of the updated DSM-5-TR), making sense and keeping track of all the latest scientific research and best practices regarding ADHD diagnostics has become quite the challenge, if not impossible at times. The purpose of this presentation, therefore, is to provide attendees both a summary of the classical/contemporary/emerging research literature on ADHD and advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of ADHD across the lifespan.

Speaker: Laurel Clement, M.A., J.D., LPC-S

Laurel Clement is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and attorney.  She will share the most common violations in Texas and provide tips for preventing litigation and complaints. A variety of counseling settings will be considered. Her legal practice consists of Family Law and representing therapists. Laurel received a Master of Arts degree from UTA in Criminal Justice and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University. After passing the Bar exam, Laurel was licensed as an attorney in November 1989.  Laurel received a Master of Arts degree from Amberton University in 1997 in counseling. She was licensed by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors in 1998.

Preventing Another Uvalde; What We Need to Do

Advocating for a Mental Health Curriculum in Texas Schools

Speaker: Cedric Wood, Ph.D., LPC

Dr. Cedric Wood is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is an advocate for legislation to require Texas schools to provide “A Class in Mental Health and Well-Being.� He is the Past President and Current Senator for Dallas Metro Counseling Association, and a member of the Dallas Psychological Association and American Psychological Association. Dr. Wood will be providing information about his advocacy efforts, the proposed curriculum, the status of that advocacy, and actions we can take to support advocacy of mental health in Texas schools.
