Recovering Together: Building Connections for Addiction and Trauma Recovery with Vignette Stories of Recovery from ‘Tipping the Pain Scale’ Video Series, presented by Glen Oaks Hospital and Lakes Regional Community Center, will feature a moderated roundtable discussion and video vignette presentation on addiction and trauma recovery. This event is aimed at helping mental health professionals understand the relationship between addiction and trauma and explore strategies to reduce stigma and increase access to care for those in need.

EVENT DETAILS

The event will take place on May 25, 2023, at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center in Greenville, Texas. The session will start with a full breakfast provided by Glenda's Deli Café & Catering at 8 am, followed by a 3-hour CE presentation starting at 9 am until noon. This event offers SUD CEs for 3 hours of credit.

PANELISTS

The panelists at the event include experienced professionals in the field of substance use disorder, including Donald M. Cook (Matt) MA, LPC, LCDC, LaVelle Hendricks, Ed.D, Matthew Bertagnole, CEO, David Risner, LPC, Nicole Fisher, RN, Director of UM, and Stacie Gonzales, an SUD Recreation Therapist at Glen Oaks Hospital.

DISCUSSION TOPICS

During the event, the panelists will cover a range of important topics related to addiction and trauma recovery, including explanation of addiction and trauma and their relationship, discussion on the impact of addiction and trauma on the body, exploration of re-traumatization from active addiction, explanation of current addiction trends, comparison between alcohol and cannabis use trends, discussion on vaping/CBD oil and its impact on addiction, discussion on the rise of fentanyl and its dangers, exploration of Tranq, its composition and spread across the US, explanation of the impact of stigma on access to care for addiction and trauma, discussion on the various forms of stigma related to addiction and trauma, and exploration of strategies to reduce stigma and increase access to care for those in need.

This roundtable discussion will be moderated by Noelle Carmen, DBD for Glen Oaks Hospital, and will offer a Q&A session between the audience and panelists.
