Subject: 2020 VA Social Work Career Day
Good Evening,
I would like to invite your students to join us for Career Day at the VA North Texas Health Care System on March 20, 2020 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm. Career Day is an opportunity for students to meet our social work staff and administrators to discuss their career goals and get an insider’s perspective on the role of a federal social worker. This event also provides students an opportunity to inquire about social work internships and post graduate fellowships. Students will be able to ask questions that will guide their future career decisions as a social worker in the medical, administration, mental health field and/or government sector. Career Day will be held at our Dallas campus located at 4500 South Lancaster Road, Dallas Texas, 75216 in Bldg. 75 (VA Community Center).
Students interested in the VA Social Work Fellowship should bring the following documents to Career Day:
1. Letter of interest that describes (a) why you are interested in further training and in this program in particular, (b) prior exposure to recovery-oriented services for substance use disorders and/or serious mental illness, and (c) your long-germ professional goals. Letters of interest are typically one page.
2. A current curriculum vitae or resume
3. Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a practicum supervisor
4. Writing sample of your choice
Fellowship Eligibility:
• Be a US citizen
• Must have received a Master’s Degree from a School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Applicants must graduate by the start of the
Fellowship, which will begin in late August.
• LMSW licensure preferred, but not required
I have attached the invite and registration form for interested students to review, complete and submit. I hope to see you all at the Annual Social Work Career Day!
Thank you,
