Child Advocate

The Samaritan Inn and McKinney ISD are seeking an energetic, strong leader to serve as our new Child Advocate, the key liaison between the Inn's homeless families and McKinney ISD. This role is a unique position, providing direct services to homeless families and their school-age children. This role provides guidance and assistance with those families who are already a part of MISD or seek to change to MISD as a resident of the Inn. These services include but are not limited to: school enrollment, acquiring necessary vaccinations, responsible for provision of necessary school supplies, arranging tutoring as needed, coordinating after school activities and monthly parenting classes through MISD, and providing transport for school and school activities if needed. This role is also responsible for assisting with arranging transportation for those families who choose to remain in their school of origin.

The position requires 25-30 hours a week, with a strong focus on morning hours starting between 5:30 and 6am. The Child Advocate enjoys a strong relationship with teachers and administration in MISD as well as being a key member of the Samaritan Inn team. Effective communication and ability to build professional relationships is an integral piece of this position. Please see below for preferred expectations:

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education or other related field

Preferred Skills:

*         experience working with at-risk population

*         experience working within or with the school setting

*         strong organizational capabilities

*         Documentation skills associated with compiling data, reporting, maintaining records, etc.

*         bi-lingual
