Subject: FW: [ClinicalReimbursement] OPPORTUNITY: Loan Repayment Program for Mental Health Professionals

The 84th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 239, which authorized a new student loan repayment assistance program for certain mental health professionals who provide services in federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas (MHPSAs). A total of $2.125 million was appropriated for the program for the FY2016-2017 state biennium. This amount is sufficient to allow for financial commitments to approximately 100 providers for two years of loan repayment.
We are pleased to announce that the application has been posted to the program web page for the Loan Repayment Program for Mental Health Professionals, which can be found at www.thecb.state.tx.us/lrp<http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/lrp>. The web page includes program information, a link to the online application, and a link to the recently adopted administrative rules for the program. The application deadline is Friday, May 6, 2016.
Based on the number of inquiries we have received, we anticipate that the number of applications from eligible professionals will far exceed the available funding. However, our hope is that establishing a three-month application period will provide an improved opportunity for meeting the statutory requirement for an equitable distribution of awards among the different types of eligible professionals.
We will appreciate your help in conveying this information to your members who may qualify and wish to apply. Thank you for your assistance with this request.
