My company has organized the North Texas Fibro & Chronic Pain Conference, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7. (Lunch is included.) This is a one-time event that brings together traditionally trained healthcare providers who use alternative methods to manage pain. We are making this event free to university students in healthcare/caring fields. Nothing will be sold and you will not be asked to sell or represent anything - this is an information only event.
This should be an especially interesting event for you and others in the Social Work Student Organization as chronic pain is frequently a complicating factor in issues social workers attempt to untangle. The speakers are sure to offer valuable insights to you and your members.
Here is the conference website: www.northtexasfibro.com<http://www.northtexasfibro.com/> Please look over the speaker options there. Just a couple highlights:
* Laurie Taylor, a grief counselor, is on the panel in the a.m. talking about the connection between grief and pain.
* Two MDs (traditionally trained) will be speaking about alternatives that help their patients with fibro and/or chronic pain.
* Yoga instructor who is speaking is also a LCSW and uses yoga in her practice to help people in pain.
* Chiropractor (lots of experience with pain from athletic injuries).
* LMT/acupunturist who regularly manages/eliminates pain for his patients.
* Health coach speaks on eating, breathing, movement to help mitigate pain without use of drugs.
* 2 traditionally trained pharmacists (the father-daughter Scarbroughs) run the Abrams Royal Pharmacy, a compounding pharmacy and the go-to place in North Texas for supplements and vitamins.
These are all licensed healthcare practitioners who offer successful ways to deal with pain that are not "Tylenol III -- Aleve every 8 hours -- Just get used to it" protocol. No one will be advocating against drugs, just showing there are other options besides drugs to deal with pain. There will be lots of time to ask questions, visit with the healthcare practitioners (during lunch) and generally learn a lot, whether you are suffering with pain or dealing with those in pain.
Go here to register (before Tuesday, June 3) for free:

(We will contact you, once you register, via email about breakout sessions and lunch.)
Please share this with other students in your organization at TAMU-Commerce. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much!
