Project Proposal: 
Is childhood trauma a factor in choosing social work as a career?

Description of the Study and Your Part in It

Bryan Goodwin is inviting you to take part in a research study. Goodwin is a graduate student at Texas A&M University-Commerce in the School of Social Work. The purpose of this research is to find out if childhood trauma is a factor in choosing social work as a career?. 

Goodwin is running this study with the help of Chris Stewart, Ph.D., who is a professor in the School of Social Work at Texas A&M University-Commerce. 

Your part in the study will be to answer questions about your reason for choosing Social Work as a career. You will be asked mainly about childhood.

It will take you about 30 minutes to be in this study.

Risks and Discomforts

There will be minimal risks, no more than that expected in daily life. 

Possible Benefits

We do not know of any way you would benefit directly from taking part in this study. However, this research may help us to understand how to help students needing support.

Incentives

No financial or other compensation will be offered. 

Protection of Privacy and Confidentiality

We will do everything we can to protect your privacy and confidentiality. We will not tell anybody outside of the research team that you were in this study or what information we collected about you in particular. The information gathered in the anonymous survey will be stored by Bryan Goodwin. To further ensure confidentiality, the only individuals authorized to see the information will be: Bryan Goodwin and Dr. Stewart of Texas A&M University-Commerce. The data will be retained for approximately three years. 

Choosing to Be in the Study

You do not have to be in this study. Participation is voluntary. You may choose not to take part and you may choose to stop taking part at any time without penalty. You will not be punished in any way if you decide not to be in the study or to stop taking part in the study. If you decide not to take part or to stop taking part in this study, it will not affect your grade/s in any way.
