Social Work Advocacy Day at the Legislature 2013

 

Social Work Advocacy Day at the Legislature is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2013   from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Please plan on participating in this important learning experience along with other social work students throughout the State!

 

Tentative Agenda

 

3:30 a.m.         Meet at TAMU-C parking lot near Henderson Hall; bus to Austin will leave promptly at 3:45 a.m.

 

8:00                 Check in at Capitol - Agricultural Museum, Room 1W.14

 

8:30                 TAMU-C Group Meeting (place TBD)

 

9:00                 Go on first legislative office visit

 

10:00               Observe reading of social work resolution in House and Senate Chambers

 

10:45               Go on second legislative office visit

 

11:30               Attend the "My Medicaid Matters" rally - South Steps of the Capitol.  Meet in the Rotunda at 11:20 as a TAMU-C group first

 

12:00               Bring summary materials to Capitol Rotunda (if visiting legislators regarding NASW-TX legislative agenda issues)

 

12:15               Lunch on your own (Capitol Café or Congress Avenue)

                        OR Take a tour of the Capitol

                        OR Visit the Capitol Gift Shop

                        OR Visit more legislators

 

2:00                 Bus leaves for Commerce

 

Cost - $15.00 per person (includes bus transportation and t-shirt).  Students may opt to car pool on their own. T-shirts will be available for $10.00 for students who do not plan on riding the bus to/from Austin.
