Dear Students - Thank you for your continued patience as we work
diligently towards successful enrollment of our summer MSW classes. I
know that some of you are anxious (perhaps even frustrated) that classes
you need are full and/or the particular day/time/location/venue is not
available because those classes are full. In the past, we have always
been able to ensure sufficient seats in classes so students were able to
stay on their degree plans (may not be on the particular day, but the
seats are available in the needed class). Therefore, Pam is maintaining
a waiting list for classes that are full (based on permits she has
issued, not what is showing in the online schedule - some students have
been permitted but have not yet registered).
As soon as there are sufficient numbers of students on the wait lists to
justify requests for new sections, I am optimistic the administration
will grant our requests. We will notify you by email as soon as new
sections are added and available for you to register. Any additional
sections will be on the same day/time as the sections that are full so
you can plan your schedules accordingly. (FYI, we are aware that a
number of students who registered for SWK 507 in Mesquite would prefer
the online section rather than F2F - we will take that into
consideration when scheduling subsequent sections.)
For those of you who have responded very graciously and with
understanding during these challenging times, thank you!! I've had
several very thoughtful emails which reflected empathy and appreciation
for our efforts. I hope that the upcoming fiscal crises that are
impacting jobs and entire agencies statewide are resolved in the near
future. For those of you who have responded differently, I hope that
you become good ambassadors of our profession and program. I think our
MSW program has achieved and maintained an excellent reputation in the
Graduate School, the College of Education and Human Services and
campus-wide (as well as with the practice community) because of the
positive attitudes we embrace and demonstrate in interactions with
others. As your Department Head, it's my job to "be a part of the
solution, not the problem". Your faculty are amazingly flexible and
resilient in the additional responsibilities being placed on them all
the time, for which I am grateful. I hope you will follow their lead as
you continue through the program on your paths to becoming life-changing
social workers!
I hope this provides some reassurance and/or clarification as to the
status of summer enrollment. I wish you continued success in the few
remaining weeks of the semester. Thank you, again, for your
contributions to make our MSW program the best it can be.
Brenda
