I hope everyone had a great Spring Break and are ready to finish out the
spring semester with a bang! I know this is a busy time for everyone
(yes, even faculty!), but I wanted to clarify a couple of questions
raised about our online classes. Our department has begun offering some
online classes, but we want to make sure they are quality learning
experiences, not just available due to convenience. We have online
field seminars available for the concentration field classes AFTER the
first semester of the AGP field. This is to ensure that the placements
are going well and students are progressing in their learning plans. We
are also offering an online elective this summer (SWK 597) [as well as
two classroom electives in MPLX, SWK 570 and SWK 597]. However, since
we did not schedule a face-to-face elective in Commerce, we want to make
sure those students have the opportunity to register for the online
class. We will continue to put more classes online in the future as we
have the faculty resources to do so.

We implemented a registration process last year to help students stay on
their degree plans. We ask that you email Pam Hammond with your
registration request, she checks your degree plan for accuracy, and then
permits you to register, usually within 1-2 days of receipt of your
request. This process is NOT intended to be a barrier to student
registration but is a support mechanism to facilitate your timely
graduation! Without this process, students were enrolling in classes
out of order and many were delayed graduation because they didn't
understand the relationship between their degree plans and our class
scheduling. So we ask for your continued cooperation and assistance in
this process. As classes fill up, Pam puts your name on a waiting list
- this allows us to advocate for additional sections if necessary.

We have over 130 MSW students enrolled this semester - so while you are
most concerned about your class schedules and registration, we have to
accommodate everyone else as well! As future MSWs, I know each of you
understand the critical influence of systems and helping facilitate
access and progress through them :-)

Finally, I'd like to express my appreciation for each one of you and
your hard work towards obtaining your MSW degree from Texas
A&M-Commerce. I get feedback regularly from our faculty and our
professional practice community about the quality and competence of our
MSW students! You are the ambassadors of our program in your classes
and your field agencies - we hope you will continue to "make us proud"!!
Have a great semester and best wishes for your success.
