Dear social workers:

 

The District of Columbia's Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services
(DYRS) is seeking to hire social workers, including bilingual
(Spanish/English) and Aftercare Workers. DYRS is committed to improving
public safety and giving court-involved youth the opportunity to become more
productive citizens by building on the strengths of youth and their families
in the least restrictive, most homelike environment consistent with public
safety. Under the leadership of Vincent Schiraldi, MSW, a nationally
recognized expert in the field of juvenile justice, the department is in the
midst of some major and exciting reform initiatives.

 

Some of the reforms which are presently underway include:

 

*                          developing the nation's best continuum of care
that is strength-based and family focused.

*                          reducing the use of unnecessary  secure
confinement and out-of-home placements for nonviolent offenders

*                          maximizing family, youth and staff input in our
reform efforts.

*                          increasing agency collaboration, and

*                          creating a unit management model that
substantially improves conditions in our secure programs, similar to the
model used in the state of Missouri.

 

We are excited by our changes and are looking for excellent social workers
and aftercare workers who can be part of our team. Social workers serve as
experienced members of an interdisciplinary team who share significant
psycho-social impressions while working closely with the youth and family.
