This is an advisory about spring classes from Dr. Bridges. Please read
carefully because we have had students not enroll in the correct
courses(for whatever reason) and now they face concerns. I am
"technically" everyone's adviser, but I cannot see all of you
face-to-face, but please note that I am available as needed. Mr. Stewart
can also discuss classes with you.
For the spring term of 2012, please let me remind you of
some basics in the curricula.
I have told some students that we will offer a section of
J115 with Ms. Barton provided we have sufficient students. Some of you
have indicated that you need the class. So, if that is so, sign up.
Otherwise, the class may be canceled.
For PR majors, get J328 in the spring. If you have not had
it. Then, you can go on to the other PR classes as offered. Also, PR
students should enroll in J336 and J260, for they are required of all
news and public relations majors and will not be offered in the summer
of fall of 2012.
News-editorial majors should take J314 if they have passed
J214. News-editorial students should also take J260 and J336. Same as
above - probably not to be offered in the summer or fall 2012.
News majors should also take J315, Editing. It is required.
PR majors also. It is on all sequences.
Journalism 426 was added. Some students have indicated a
need, so sign up for the campaigns class. We need about 12 students,
although we could go to 15 if there are PR students who have had at
least J328 or J329 and will talk with Dr. Bridges.
A question has been asked about J495. Yes, internship credit
for the spring(or summer) can be obtained, see Dr. Bridges if you are
planning on fulfilling the internship requirement in the SPRING. You
need to be approved to enroll in this course. If you need help in
securing a suitable intern site, please see Dr. Bridges, Mr. Stewart or
Ms. Barton for ideas.
Again, I urge you to consider carefully your courses because
new requirements for journalism and broadcasting students have been
approved for students entering in the fall 2011. The revamped sequences
require more hours than the present ones. I will try to have some sheets
ready with the requirements.
Please be sure you get correct advice about classes. In the
past, despite good efforts by Success Coaches and all individuals
contacted, students in isolated cases have not been given correct advice
or interpretations about Journalism Division sequences nor those of Mass
Media, Communication and Theatre. I would like to avoid as many concerns
and reduce as much anxiety as possible. REMEMBER THE CATALOG you are
under for University curricula.
But, do ask questions. Most "problems" can be solved.
Best to all for the remainder of the fall term.
- Dr. Bridges
