This is long, but please read.
Journalism and public relations majors: under the new advising
procedures, you will be sent to JOUR once you have accumulated 24 hours,
been here one year, passed ENG 101 and the mathematics requirement. So, as
a reminder, please note these suggestions for the fall semester of 2010.
This message is to try to spread the word
as widely as possible, but if you need to talk with Dr. Bridges personally,
give him a call.
One: news-editorial majors who need J316 should take it this fall.
It will not be offered for another year. The same is true for J214 and
J115. J115 is limited to 15 because of the computer lab. If needed, we
will consider adding a second section IF we can get budget approval.
Beginning this fall, J445 is required, so it is advisable to take that
course. That class will look at basic ethical concerns in all media. It
used to a choice in the capstone requirement (since abolished). This class
would be a good opportunity to question some practices of the media and
examine some of today¹s issues.
For public relations majors: J329 should be taken by those who have
had J328 and/or who need to start the four pr courses required. J445 is
also required for pr.
My advice would be to plan carefully for the 2010‹2011 year.
If you need J495, internship, you may fulfill that requirement any
semester.
Look over your record and be sure you are completing your minor (if
needed, check with an adviser in the program) and that you have taken all of
the core classes required by the state.
If you are transferring in hours from another university or junior
college perhaps hours this summer of 2010 be sure you get those
transcripts into the University.
For those planning to graduate this summer, please note you have to
file paperwork and pay a fee for the August commencement. The journalism
office was told the deadline is June 18.
FINAL WORD: do not forget the scholarship competition is again open
till July 1. CURRENT students may apply! Ms. Phillips sent out
information to all names on our listserv. We still have some money.
                                                        Dr. Bridges
