URGENT: MAINTAIN YOUR F-1 VISA

International Lions:

Welcome to Fall 2022 semester! Office of International Program (OIP) hopes that you are doing well and enjoying your classes.

ATTN: It has come to our attention that international students are unregistering themselves and are unable to maintain their F-1 student status due to improper course registration. Students who are considering changing/dropping registered classes to enroll in your preferred course, note that your department may not be able to accommodate your request. If this results in you not maintaining a full course of study, our office will TERMINATE your F-1 student status and you may be required to return to your home country immediately. DO NOT make a change in your class registration if you already have a set schedule and are registered correctly. It is your responsibility to maintain your F-1 status. Failing to do so, OIP will not grant any special accommodations or approval to your individual situation.

TAMUC course registration deadline is September 14, 2022, to enroll in classes for the Fall 2022 term.

Maintain your F-1 VISA:

F-1 student must enroll in Full Course of Study<chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https:/inside.tamuc.edu/campusLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServices/documents/Full_Course_of_Study_Requirement.pdf> to maintain your F-1 student status. If you are enrolled in less than full time<chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https:/inside.tamuc.edu/campusLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServices/documents/Full_Course_of_Study_Requirement.pdf> please fill in the Reduced Course Load (RCL) form. To submit the form, click here RCL form<https://dms.tamuc.edu/Forms/Reduced-Course-Load>.

OIP is responsible for reporting to Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to notify the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on your registration status each semester. We will be reporting to SEVIS between September 14-23, 2022. If you are enrolled less than full time<chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https:/inside.tamuc.edu/campusLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServices/documents/Full_Course_of_Study_Requirement.pdf> for no valid reason or enrolled incorrectly and we do not hear from you, our office will have no choice but to terminate your SEVIS record for “Failure to Enroll.”

Take Action today:

Please respond to this email to update us on your status if you are:

1) Transferring to Another School

· If you are transferring to another school fill out the transfer out form<https://dms.tamuc.edu/Forms/OIP-Student?_ga=2.151324921.1908964268.1630332578-2087020399.1620051091> and upload your acceptance letter

2) Departing from the U.S.

· If you departed the U.S. provide a copy of your departing flight itinerary, then your visa and immigration record will be terminated for NON- NEGATIVE reason. This will allow to apply for future visas to reenter the U.S.

· If you do NOT Depart the U.S., your visa and immigration record may be terminated. This will leave a permanent negative mark on your U.S. immigration history and may result in a denial of any future entry to the U.S. or future benefits allotted to F-1 visa holders. According to section 212(a)(9)(B)(ii) of the INA, you will accrue Unlawful Presence and Inadmissibility<https://www.uscis.gov/laws-and-policy/other-resources/unlawful-presence-and-inadmissibility>

3) Changing your status (Such as F-1 to PR, or other immigration statuses)

· If you have applied with USCIS for another visa status, please communicate with our office and provide documentation to our office by September 14, 2022, to avoid a negative termination.

Good luck on your semester ahead! Know OIP is here to assist you in your journey to success. If you have any questions or concerns, please email intl.stu at tamuc.edu<mailto:intl.stu at tamuc.edu>.
