Subject: [Faculty & Staff] The Writing Center is open for the Spring

Good afternoon, campus community:

The Writing Center has opened its doors for the spring semester, and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about what we do. Providing walk-in, email, and Skype options, we serve writers from all academic levels and disciplines. You may or may not be aware that our writing consultants work with both students and faculty at all stages of the writing process, including the following:
• Understanding the role of audience, purpose, and genre in a writing task
• Brainstorming, planning, and organizing content
• Researching and citing sources in MLA, APA, and Chicago-style formats
• Revising for better focus and development
• Proofreading and editing drafts

Our staff is composed of graduate and undergraduate students who come from various academic backgrounds, from critical literacy and education, to business, history, psychology, and science. And while we are not an editing service, we do show writers how to proofread and edit their own texts.

There are several ways to encourage students to use the Writing Center. You may schedule a visit to your class, request a workshop on a specific writing issue, or circulate a flyer to your students. For those who cannot make it to the Center, our Online Writing Lab is a great option and can be reached at: writing.tamuc at gmail.com<mailto:writing.tamuc at gmail.com>.

I have attached a flyer with more detail about us. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a class visit.

Here’s to a wonderful semester!
