Each November, the U.S. Department of State sets aside a week called International Education Week<https://eca.state.gov/programs-initiatives/international-education-week> (IEW) to celebrate international education and exchange in the U.S. and around the world. International Education Week 2016 will be November 14-18 and during this week the Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) will host different events to celebrate international education and our different global cultures represented at A&M-Commerce.
One new event for this year is a cultural luncheon that will be hosted tentatively on November 16 from 11:30am-1:00pm and we need the help of an international student organization or group of students for this event. The purpose of this event is to allow an international student organization or group of students an opportunity to share their country/culture with a group of university faculty/staff (up to 35 attendees) by hosting a traditional (catered) meal and providing an organized, fun, interactive, and informative session about their culture. This event will be fully funded by the ISSS with a set budget for the event.
Any group interested in hosting this event will need to email a formal and detailed proposal for the session to John.Jones at tamuc.edu<mailto:John.Jones at tamuc.edu> by October 6 at 5pm. The proposal must include the following:
* Student organization's name or group's country/culture and primary contact's name, email, and CWID
* Details for meal and proposed caterer's contact information
* Information session specific details (session may include language session to teach basic phrases/greetings in host country's language, brief presentation to provide interesting facts about host country, interactive traditional games or trivia, examples of clothing or styles native to host country, other traditions native to host country)
* Number of students who will assist with hosting session including volunteers to set-up and clean-up after event
Please note all proposals must be submitted to John.Jones at tamuc.edu<mailto:John.Jones at tamuc.edu> by October 6 at 5pm. If you have any questions you may email John.Jones at tamuc.edu<mailto:John.Jones at tamuc.edu>.
