U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has some great information on how to avoid scams that target non-citizens at http://www.uscis.gov/avoid-scams. Please be sure to read this helpful information.
As a general rule NEVER NEVER NEVER provide your personal information (bank information, credit card information, SSN, passport number, etc) to anyone over the phone. If someone calls you and says any of the following please contact the ISSS or University Police Department immediately:
* Says they are from immigration (USCIS, Immigration Customs Enforcement, etc) and they say you will be deported or your visa status is in jeopardy if you do not make a payment to them immediately.
* Asks for your personal information (credit card number, social security number, date of birth, driver's license number, passport number, etc).
* Says they are from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and that you must pay a penalty immediately or you will be arrested or deported.
