Dear colleagues,

My name is Meichan Huang, a doctoral student at Department of Literature and Languages, Texas A&M University – Commerce. I am conducting research on the perception of L2 accented English speakers for other non-native speakers of English. The intelligibility of L2 English is crucial when it comes to the successful communication between interlocutors, especially when the conversation involves L2 English speakers and listeners who are from different L1 backgrounds.

We need 74 participants in total. Please contact us if you speak Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Korean, or other languages.

Participating in this study will take approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour, and will be conducted on campus.

If you are interested in participating in this study, or you are interested in second language speech production, please fill in the background information survey, which will take approximately 5 minutes.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this study. Thank you!

Dear Mr. Jones,
I went to the international student office a moment ago and you were in a meeting, so I wrote you this email.
I am wondering if you have seen my IRB confirmation? If you need to know more about my project, I attached the full proposal for you.
Also, could you please kindly let me know if you agree to send out the email to our international students. I am sorry to bother you, but for this project, I need a lot of time for data collection and the time left is limited to me. So I will be grateful that if I can know when I can start collecting data.
Thank you very much and I appreciate your help.
Best,
Meichan

Dear Mr. Jones,
I am writing to ask if you can do me a favour and send the attached email to our international students? It is a recruiting email for a research project run by me for a conference.
I am currently doing a research on English pronunciation of second language speakers, and I have passed the IRB proposal. So it's the crucial time to recruit some international students who can participate in my study.
If you need to know more about the project, I can send you the detailed IRB proposal to you, and explain to you about this project.
Please see the attachment for the recruiting email. Please kindly consider my request.
Thank you very much,
Meichan
