Every year the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education set aside a week in November, called International Education Week (IEW), to celebrate programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. Texas A&M University-Commerce's International Student Services Office and other university departments and student organizations host events during IEW to celebrate the different cultures represented on campus and provide opportunities for the university and surrounding community to learn more about these cultures. This year IEW will be November 17 to November 21 and the tentative schedule this year will include International Coffee Hour, the ELI culture fair, possible international movie night, and a language luncheon.

Also, every year the ISSO partners with an international student group(s) or a group of international student(s) to host a cultural night to focus on a specific country of culture as the final event for IEW. In the past, we have hosted Brazilian Night, African Night, Arabian Night, Korean Night, as well as other cultures on Thursday during IEW. For this event, the ISSO reserves the Rayburn Student Center Conference Rooms 213ABC, provides a limited budget for the event, has a food waiver with the RSC and Sodexo, and provides support for the event preparation and during the event.

This year, international student organizations or any group of international students will have the opportunity to submit a proposal to the ISSO for consideration for their culture(s) of country(s) to be represented for this year's cultural night on Thursday, November 20 in the evening during IEW. Multiple groups may partner together to submit one proposal for consideration. We will have an IEW committee review all proposals and select a culture or country to be represented. Attached is the proposal application, requirements, and details.

Any international student organization or group of international students may submit the attached proposal via email to Intl.Stu at tamuc.edu<mailto:Intl.Stu at tamuc.edu> or in person at the ISSO in Halladay 104 for consideration. The deadline to submit a proposal is Tuesday, October 14 at 5pm. Multiple groups may partner together and submit one proposal for consideration. The IEW committee will review all proposals and select this year's culture or country to be represented for the cultural night on Thursday, November 20. The chosen culture(s) or country(s) will be announced by Friday, October 17. Proposals will need to be at least one full page and include the following information (be specific):

*         Activities for the event

* Performances (by student group or professional organization)

* Food that will be served (detailed menu)

* How you will promote the event

* How the event will benefit the university and surrounding community

* How the event will fulfill the goal of International Education Week as stated above

If you have any questions please email me. Thanks
