There are just a few seats left for the Galveston Island trip from Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6. Read the email below for more information.

The ISSO will host a trip for international students to Galveston Island Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6. The cost of the trip will be $120 which includes hotel room (4 students per room with 2 queen beds) and transportation to Galveston and return to Commerce. Expenses for food, transportation around the island, and admission to attractions on the island will be the responsibility of the student. Students with family who would like to attend will need to contact the ISSO to discuss the family rate. Space is limited for the trip so students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
Sign up will begin Wednesday, September 4 in the ISSO and students must sign up in person (no phone calls, emails, or friends signing up friends). The $120 registration will be required at sign-up. The deadline to sign up will be Thursday, September 19. Registration is nontransferable/nonrefundable once you have signed up. The first student to sign up will be free for the trip.
The schedule for the weekend will be open for students to explore the island at their convenience. Galveston Island attractions include:
· Schlitterbahn Waterpark <http://www.schlitterbahn.com/gal/> includes an indoor section for inclement weather or during the winter months. Group rate tickets for 15 or more are available for students.
· Moody Gardens Galveston Island <http://www.moodygardens.com/> includes the Aquarium Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, a 3D Theater, 4D FX Theater, Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, Discovery Museum, and other special events
· Galveston Island Ferry <http://www.galveston.com/galvestonferry/> a FREE ferry ride every 15-20 minutes across Galveston Bay. Riders may see different sea creatures during ferry ride.
· Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier <http://www.pleasurepier.com/tickets.html> includes amusement park rides and other attractions

The ISSO will provide a FREE Saturday morning shuttle (only Saturday morning) to Schlitterbahn, Moody Gardens, and the Pleasure Pier for students. However, students will need to arrange their own transportation to return to the hotel. For information on public transportation go to http://www.galveston.com/maps/.
On the return trip Sunday, we will stop at the Tanger Outlet Mall <http://www.tangeroutlet.com/houston/> for students to shop for a couple of hours and each lunch. For money saving coupons at the Tanger Outlet Mall go to http://www.tangeroutlet.com/houston/coupons.
We will be staying at the Quality Inn and Suites Hotel on Friday and Saturday night and for more information about the hotel go to http://www.qualityinngalveston.com/. The hotel will provide free breakfast, free wifi, an indoor pool, and students will be staying in rooms with 2 queen beds. The beach is right across the road from the hotel. There are a number of restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel including a Mexican restaurant, Golden Corral, two Chinese restaurants, Waffle House, IHOP, the Rainforest Café, and Starbucks.
We will depart for Galveston on Friday, October 4 at 8:30am from the Performing Arts Center/Science Building parking lot. Students who have class on Friday may contact the ISSO to request an excused absence request for your instructor(s). We will tentatively arrive in Galveston at 5pm (depending upon traffic in Houston) and students will be free Friday evening and Saturday to explore the island and attractions. We tentatively will depart the hotel at 10:15am on Sunday (we will stop at mall for a few hours) and anticipate arriving in Commerce by 8pm.
