This semester it has come to our attention that a small number of
students are experiencing problems when they attempt to apply for a
Texas state ID/driver's license or a social security number.

In previous semesters students experienced problems related to the
database system, called SAVE, that the Department of Public Safety (DPS)
and Social Security Administration (SSA) use to communicate with the
SEVIS Immigration System. Staff members at DPS and SSA will often tell
a student they need to contact their international office at their
school to "fix their status or documents" but the vast majority of the
time the problem is with the SAVE system.

If you go to apply for Texas state ID/driver's license or a social
security number and you are rejected because the DPS/SSA staff member
states there is a problem with your visa status or immigration
documents (passport, visa, I-94, I-20) then please provide the following
information to the ISSO immediately:

* Address of DPS or SSA office you visited

* Date and time you visited

* Person you spoke to at the office

* The specific reason you were denied or rejected

* DL number (only students renewing their license)

You may either email the ISSO the information or come to the office in
Halladay 104.
