Just a reminder that the A&M System Student Health Insurance Provider
(SSHIP) has changed for the fall semester. For more information on the
new provider go to https://www.academichealthplans.com/tamuc/2013-2014/.
Students currently enrolled will receive an email very soon once the
enrollment report has been submitted to the SSHIP. Instructions will be
provided on requesting a waiver, early enrollment, and other
information. If you have questions contact John.Jones at tamuc.edu.
THE COST FOR THE INSURANCE HAS INCREASED THIS FALL SEMESTER TO AN
ESTIMATED $639 FOR THE FALL. The insurance charge will be placed on
your account by the beginning of the second week of classes and payment
is required by 12th class day. Please note the health insurance
requirement is an A&M System wide policy and the ISSO does not negotiate
or set the cost for the health insurance.
As have been mentioned in previous emails, students who are eligible for
one of the allowed waivers from the mandatory enrollment will need to
submit their waiver information to the SSHIP by August 26. For
information on waiver eligibility go to
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/insurance.aspx. Due to delays in the new process
students may also submit their waiver eligibility information to
John.Jones at tamuc.edu. Below are instructions for students who meet an
eligible waiver:
* Students who have employment based insurance will need to
submit confirmation for their current eligibility (letter or statement
confirming current coverage dates), copy of the insurance card, and
verification of the coverage minimum to confirm the coverage meets the
A&M System minimum requirements. Information will need to be emailed to
John.Jones at tamuc.edu by August 26 to be considered. The ISSO will not
contact your insurance provider on your behalf.
* Students with graduate assistant insurance will need to
contact Cynthia.Todhunter at tamuc.edu, confirm their insurance coverage,
and have Cynthia email the ISSO to verify the insurance coverage.
Information will need to be emailed to John.Jones at tamuc.edu by August
26.
* Students with government scholarship (financial guarantee)
will need to ensure the Financial Services Office (not ISSO) has a
current FG on record by August 26. Students who do not have a current
FG on record by August 26 may be charged the insurance.
We apologize that the transition to the new SSHIP has been delayed and
students may contact John.Jones at tamuc.edu with any questions or
concerns. The ISSO is planning to host an information session with the
new SSHIP for students tentatively on Wednesday, August 28 at 2pm in
BA221. Students are encouraged to attend to learn more about the SSHIP.
