Just a reminder, if you will be traveling outside the U.S. during the
summer you will need to review your I-20 to make sure your travel
signature on the last page of your I-20 is valid for re-entry. Students
do not need a travel signature every time they depart the U.S. The
travel validation signature is valid for 12 months from the date of the
signature for re-entry to the U.S.
If you need a travel signature please make your request at least TWO
WEEKS prior to your departure. To request a travel signature you will
need to complete the Travel Signature Request form that is attached and
is also at
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/visa-and-travel-resources1/default.aspx and drop
off your forms or mail them to the ISSO. If you live outside of
Commerce and you need a travel signature you may:
* Drop off your I-20 with the Travel Signature Request form to
pick up later
* Mail your I-20 and Travel Signature Request form to the ISSO
and we will mail your I-20 back to you (please see Travel Signature
Request form for instructions)
PLEASE ALLOW THE ISSO UP TO 5 BUSINESS DAYS TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST.
If you plan on traveling outside the U.S. during the summer you will
need the following documents. For more information regarding traveling
outside the U.S. please go to
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/visa-and-travel-resources1/default.aspx:
* Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you
re-enter the U.S
* Valid visa- If your visa has expired you will need to renew it
before you can re-enter the U.S. Please go to
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html for information
on renewing your visa and http://www.ice.gov/sevis/travel/faq_f.htm for
travel information.
* I-94 Arrival/Departure record- you will need to surrender your
paper copy I-94 when you depart the U.S. Please note that beginning
April 30, 2013 non-immigrants will no longer be issued paper copy I-94's
when they enter the U.S. through air and sea port of entries. Students
who enter through land port on entries will still be issued paper copy
I-94's. Students will be able to access their electronic I-94 record
after entering the U.S. at www.cbp.gov/I94. For more information go to
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/visa-and-travel-resources1/default.aspx.
* Current I-20 with a travel signature that is dated within 12
months of the date you plan to re-enter.
* Students are strongly encouraged to return prior to the first
day of the fall semester to avoid any possible delays or problems at
port of entry. The ISSO and academic departments will no longer grant
permission or issue letters confirming international students will
arrive after the start of the fall/spring semesters or travel outside
the U.S. during the fall/spring semesters.
* The Department of State website also recommends students be
prepared to present an unofficial transcript and/or proof of financial
support (bank/sponsor statement) at the port of entry. The bank/sponsor
statement should reflect a minimum balance of $28000 for undergraduate
students, $26000 for graduate students, or $20000 for ELI students.
You may contact the ISSO with any questions or concerns.
