Beginning April 30, 2013 any F-1 or J-1 student and their dependents
(F-2, J-2) who enter the U.S. through an air or sea port of entry will
no longer be issued a paper copy I-94. Paper copy I-94's will still be
issued for individuals who enter at land port of entries
(ex...Mexico/U.S. border).

It will take about 4 weeks for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to
implement this new process at all air and sea port of entries in the U.S
and a schedule can be found on the attached FAQ.

Below is a brief list of frequently asked questions. For more
information you may review the attached FAQI94Automation or go to
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/i-94_instructions/i94_rollout.
xml.

* Who will this change impact? The new paperless (electronic)
I-94 process will apply to all individuals who enter the U.S. at an air
or sea port of entry in a non-immigrant visa (F, J, H1-B, B and their
dependents).

* Will the process to enter the U.S. change at the port of
entry? No. CBP has indicated the process to enter the U.S. at the port
of entry will not change except a paper copy I-94 will no longer be
issued at air and sea port of entries. Paper copy I-94's will still be
issued for individuals who enter at land port of entries.

* When will this change be effective? CBP has announced this
new process will be effective beginning April 30, 2013. It will take
about 4 weeks for CBP to implement this new process at all air and sea
port of entries. For a schedule for the implementation see the attached
FAQ.

* What if I enter through a land port of entry (ex...Mexico/U.S.
border)? Anyone who enters through a land port of entry will still
receive the paper copy I-94. When this individual departs the U.S. they
will need to surrender the paper copy I-94 before they depart
(regardless if they depart through land port of entry or air/sea port of
entry).

* What if I currently have a paper copy I-94 or receive a paper
copy I-94 when I enter the U.S. in the future? The process for
surrendering paper copy I-94's will not change. If you currently have a
paper copy I-94 or receive one in the future then you will surrender the
paper copy I-94 the next time you depart the U.S. (regardless if you
depart through land port of entry or air/sea port of entry).

* How do I access my electronic I-94 record? CBP has created a
website at www.cbp.gov/I94 that will go live on April 26, 2013. Within
two days of entering the U.S. you will be able to access your electronic
I-94 record through the above website. See the attached FAQ for more
information.

* Can I print or save a copy of my electronic I-94? Yes and we
strongly recommend you do this. When students depart and re-enter the
U.S. the ISSO needs copies of all updated documents for your file.

* Do I need to surrender a printed copy of my electronic I-94
when I depart the U.S.? No. CBP will automatically update your I-94
record when you depart the U.S. The only time you will need to
surrender anything related to your I-94 is if you have received a paper
copy I-94. The process for surrendering the paper copy I-94 will not
change.

* What if I need to apply for a driver's license/state ID or
social security number? Students will need to print a copy of their
electronic I-94 to apply for a driver's license/state ID or SSN.
