USCIS recently passed an interim final ruling that the I-94 will be paperless. This means that students and many other non-immigrants entering the U.S. will no longer receive paper copies of the I-94.
For a link to the announcement on Customs and Borders Protection (CBP)'s website go to http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/national/03212013.xml.
The ISSO is gathering information and guidance on this ruling due to the impact this could have specifically on international student's applying for a driver's license/state ID and/or a social security number. We will provide more guidance as we receive more information from USCIS and CBP.
