If you plan on traveling outside the U.S. during the semester break you
will need the following documents. For more information regarding
traveling outside the U.S. please go to
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/visa-and-travel-resources1/default.aspx:
* Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you
re-enter the U.S
* Valid visa- If your visa has expired you will need to renew it
before you can re-enter the U.S. Please go to
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html for information
on renewing your visa and http://www.ice.gov/sevis/travel/faq_f.htm for
travel information. PLEASE NOTE THAT PER DEPARTMENT OF STATE
NOTIFICATION A LETTER FROM THE UNIVERSITY IS NO LONGER REQUIRED TO RENEW
YOUR VISA.
* I-94 Arrival/Departure card- this will need to be submitted
prior to leaving the U.S. If you fail to submit the I-94 before you
leave please notify the ISSO once you return and we will assist you with
submitting it.
* Current I-20 with a travel signature that is dated within 12
months of the date you plan to re-enter. Please see below if you need a
travel signature.
* The Department of State website also recommends students be
prepared to present an unofficial transcript and proof of financial
support (bank/sponsor statement) at the port of entry. The bank/sponsor
statement should reflect a minimum balance of $28000 for undergraduate
students, $26000 for graduate students, or $20000 for ELI students.
Students are strongly encouraged to return to the U.S. prior to the
first day of the spring semester (January 14) to avoid possible issues
at the port of entry and/or with their coursework.
If you need to request a travel signature please complete the Travel
Signature Request form and submit your I-20 to the ISSO at least 5-10
business days before your departure date. The Travel Signature Request
from is located at
http://www.tamuc.edu/studentLife/campusServices/internationalStudentServ
ices/currentStudents/visa-and-travel-resources1/default.aspx. Students
may drop off their I-20 in person at the ISSO to receive a travel
signature or they may mail their I-20 if outside the Commerce area.
Please note it may take 1-3 business days for the ISSO to process the
travel signature request. Instructions are provided on the travel
signature request form linked above. The ISSO may request a copy of
your travel itinerary at our discretion.
IF YOU WILL BE TRAVELING WITHIN THE U.S. DURING THE SEMESTER BREAK WE
STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TRAVEL WITH YOUR PASSPORT, VISA, I-94, AND I-20.
