[Intl-stu] Traveling over the summer break

Students planning on traveling outside the U.S during the summer break
need to review their I-20 to make sure you have a travel validation
signature on the last page. The travel validation signature is valid
for one year from the date of the signature and you do not need to have
a new signature every time you travel outside the U.S: For example- a
signature dated 12/15/2010 will be valid for re-entry until 12/14/2011
so a new signature for the summer is not necessary.

If you need a travel validation signature please come in at least two
weeks before you plan to depart the U.S. and allow 2-3 business days for
the ISSO to process the request. You may visit
http://www.ice.gov/sevis/travel/faq_f.htm for more information on
traveling under the F-1 visa.

For students who are planning to travel outside the U.S. and will be
returning after the start of the fall semester you will need to secure a
letter from your class instructor(s) stating the time of your return
because you will be missing classes. This travel letter must be brought
to the ISSO when requesting a travel signature. The letter must contain
all of your student information, the class(es) you will be missing,
reason for traveling within a semester (personal, family emergency,
medical, .............) and the date of your expected return to continue
classes.

Also, please review your passport to ensure it is valid for at least six
(6) months from the date you plan to re-enter the U.S. and review your
visa to make sure it is still valid. To renew your passport you may
contact your countries embassy or consulate within the U.S. If you need
to review your visa please visit
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html for more
information. Be sure to submit your I-94 Arrival/Departure card before
you depart the U.S. You will be issued a new I-94 when you re-enter the
U.S.

Another suggested document for travel outside the U.S. is a copy of your
unofficial transcript from MyLeo showing your registered classes. This
document helps show your current status especially when you are
traveling for an extend amount of time during a semester.

The ISSO strongly recommends students traveling within the U.S. to
always carry their I-20, passport, visa, and I-94.
