This spring 2011 semester ALL F-1 and J-1 international students will be
automatically enrolled in the A&M System insurance, AIP. DO NOT BUY
MEDICAL/REPATRIATION INSURANCE FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER!
For our new students in fall 2010 your insurance will continue from fall
to spring. For all other students, your insurance will be effective on
January 18, 2011.
If you enroll in courses for the Winter Mini AND BEGAN your academic
program PRIOR to the fall 2010 semester you will be required to provide
proof of medical/repatriation insurance for the Winter Mini or your
classes will be dropped. New students who began their academic program
in fall 2010 WILL NOT be required to provide proof of insurance for the
Winter Mini as you are already covered under the mandatory enrollment.
The semester premium will be $274 and will be charged to your student
account and may not show up until 2-3 weeks after the start of the
spring semester. This charge will show up as a separate charge from
your tuition and fees and IS NOT INCLUDED WITH YOUR TUITION COSTS. THE
$274 PREMIUM MUST BE PAID BY THE 20TH DAY OF CLASS THIS SPRING SEMESTER
OR YOUR CLASSES WILL BE DROPPED. The ISSO will provide your information
to AIP for billing purposes and students will receive their insurance
information about 45 days after the start of the spring semester. For
more information on AIP insurance please visit www.tamuinsurance.com.
The ISSO is currently working to adjust all insurance holds so students
may register for their courses when registration begins for graduate
students on October 25. The insurance hold will not be completely
removed but will be adjusted with an end date of whenever it is lifted.
In addition, an informational hold (THAT WILL NOT PREVENT REGISTRATION)
will be added to all student's accounts.
What if I try to register but can't due to a hold?
Students may not be able to register due to a number of reasons:
* Other departments place registration holds on student's
accounts and the ISSO has no control or information on these holds. An
example may be an advising hold or Bursar (financial) office hold.
* Students who have not made full payment of their tuition and
fees this semester may have a registration hold from the Bursar
(financial) office. If you still owe the university money you will most
likely not be able to register.
* Some courses may require pre-requisites that will prevent you
from registering and students are required to have permission from the
department/professor to register for the courses.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND STUDENTS REVIEW THEIR MYLEO THIS WEEK TO ENSURE
THEY WILL BE ABEL TO REGISTER FOR COURSES NEXT WEEK. IF YOU HAVE
OUTSTANDING TUITION AND FEES THEN CONTACT THE BURSAR'S OFFICE AT
903-886-5050 TO MAKE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS THIS WEEK.
Who is exempt from the mandatory enrollment in the A&M System insurance?
Only the students below will be exempted from the mandatory enrollment:
* Students who have a government scholarship that includes
medical repatriation insurance that meet our minimum coverage
requirements.
* Students who are covered under a spouse's insurance who is
employed within the U.S. (example- H1-B spouse) that meets our minimum
coverage requirements. Students must provide proof the insurance meets
our minimum requirements before being exempted.
* Students who have a graduate assistantship with medical
repatriation insurance.
If you are eligible to be exempted from the mandatory enrollment it will
be your responsibility to provide proof of insurance coverage each
semester.
