This email is to provide some updated information regarding Texas state
ID and driver's license

Most driver's license offices require a letter from my office verifying
your enrollment and you will also need to provide your I-20 (F-1) or
DS-2019 (J-1), passport, visa, and I-94. You may request this letter at
http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/international/forms.asp.

HOWEVER,

The Greenville driver's license office (Department of Public Safety) at
2801 Stuart Street Rm 408 ONLY requires you're A&M-Commerce student ID
and not a letter from the ISSO. You will also need to provide your
I-20, passport, visa, and I-94. You do not have to have a letter
verifying your enrollment at the Greenville office.

Students who do not want to wait for my office to issue the letter are
welcome to go to Greenville's driver's license office. You do not have
to live in Hunt county (Commerce, Greenville, Sulphur Springs, etc...)
to go to this office. Students from the Dallas/Fort Worth area may go
to Greenville if they want.

For more information on applying for a driver's license please visit
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/.

ALSO,

Please be aware that the Texas Department of Public Safety regulations
require your I-20 or DS-2019 to be valid for at least six (6) months
beyond the date of your application or you will be denied. There are
NO EXCEPTIONS to this regulation and we understand it may cause extreme
hardship and international advisors across the state are petitioning
this regulation to be changed. In many cases you will have to be
APPROVED for post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) BEFORE
you can renew or be issued a license. Many driver's license offices
will require students on OPT to have the EAD card before you can apply.

Students graduating in the spring whose license will expire need to
apply in plenty of time to make sure to meet the six (6) month
requirement.
