International Students intl-stu at TAMU-Commerce.edu

Just to clarify as some students had questions, students are not
required to take courses for the summer unless it is their first
semester or they have a graduate assistantship for the summer. Students
with a graduate assistant position for the summer must take at least 3
semester credit hours for Summer I and 3 semester credit hours for
Summer II. Please go to
http://web.tamu-commerce.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/gafactsh
eet.pdf for more information on graduate assistantship requirements.

Just a reminder, international students are not required to take courses
during the summer semester unless it is their first semester. Students
may remain in the U.S. or travel outside the U.S. during the summer
semester and there are no requirements that students take a certain
number of face to face or online courses.

Students traveling outside the U.S. need to confirm the following PRIOR
to leaving the U.S.:

* You have a valid visa, valid passport, and I-94. If you visa
has expired or will expire while you are outside the U.S. you will need
to renew it before you can reenter the U.S. Please visit
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html for more
information. The ISSO will issue a verification of enrollment letter
for visa renewal and you can make the request with our online request
form at http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/international/forms.asp.

* They have a travel validation signature that is valid beyond
the date they plan to reenter. The travel validation signature is on
the last page of the I-20 and is valid for one year from the date of the
signature for reentry into the U.S.

* For more information on traveling outside the U.S. please
visit http://www.ice.gov/sevis/travel/faq_f.htm.

Whether you are traveling within the U.S. or outside the U.S. you need
to carry ALL of your immigration documents (I-20, passport, visa, I-94)
at ALL times.

Students MAY NOT work or volunteer off-campus during the summer without
prior authorization from the ISSO. The ISSO recently became aware of
USCIS and Department of Labor regulations that strictly limit off-campus
volunteer employment for F-1 students. Please visit with John Mark or
Brenda in the ISSO for more information. Students may work on-campus
over the summer for up to 40 hours a week.
