International Education Week is coming up very soon, November 16-20, and the ISSO in partnership with the Association of International Students and other groups has planned a number of events for the week.

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. This week is also set aside to celebrate diversity on our campus and there will be opportunities to celebrate your culture.

All international students and international student groups are strongly encouraged to participate in the IEW events. We need your help!

Monday, November 16 we will have an opening reception that afternoon with the President for the university community with a performance by the Mayan Performing Arts. LULAC will possibly sponsor an event that evening.

Tuesday, November 17, the MRC will host Club Night and will be playing music from around the world.

Wednesday, November 18, the ISSO will host an International Coffee Hour for the university community in our new location in Halladay 104. We need students to help us by providing coffee, tea, desserts, and/or a small sampling of food from their home country. The ISSO will reimburse up to $50 for food expenses for the International Coffee Hour but students MUST contact John Mark Jones at John_jones at tamu-commerce.edu by Wednesday, November 11 for more information and to participate. We need your help so please consider participating! We will also be showing a short documentary made by a A&M-Commerce student sharing the experiences of international students at our university.

That Wednesday evening, AIS is partnership with the ISSO will sponsor International Movie Night in the Club. Slumdog Millionaire will be featured tentative to confirming availability.

Thursday, November 19, AIS will sponsor Arabian Night that evening in the Club.

An official announcement of events with times will be provided soon. If you are interested in helping in any way please email John_Jones at tamu-commerce.edu for more information.
