Recently the email below was sent out to the university community regarding the Celebration of Faith on Saturday, February 7, 2009. We have had participants come forward from different faiths but we have not had any individuals specifically from the Hindu and Buddhist faiths express interest in participating at this time. If you would like to particpate regardless of faith, please contact me immediately to set up an appointment as there is very limited time. The committee planning the event will select and notify participants from the responses we receive by the end of the week so I will need to meet with you by 5pm on Thursday, January 29, 2009. The ISSO is closed today due to the icy conditions but we will reopen Thursday at 8am.
February 5 - 7, 2009, Dr. Jones celebrates his investiture as 11th President of the University. As part of his celebration, he is asking the University community to come together for a "Celebration of Faith." This Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Center. We come together to learn, for sport and play, and even at times to celebrate our cultures. We gather and are expressive of who we are in many ways throughout the year. We are a University of diverse faith expression. Now is a great opportunity to gather with others of different faith expression and beliefs, to break the barriers of ignorance and intolerance, to build, through expression, a bond of understanding and sensitivity. Our expression of faith takes many forms including prayer, dance, music, etc. Anyone wishing to participate in the presentation of this "Celebration of Faith" please let us know no later than January 23, 2009 by 12:00 noon, by e-mailing or calling the Dean of Students office (Brian_Nichols at tamu-commerce.edu <mailto:Brian_Nichols at tamu-commerce.edu> or at 903-886-5171). A committee will select and notify participants from the responses that are received.
