Greeting,

 

We would like to ask for your assistance in getting the word out to the
organizations for which you are faculty advisor.   Please read below to
understand how participation by your fraternity or sorority could positively
impact our research. 

 

This research is primarily a pilot study to determine the differential risks
for cardiovascular disease.   It is aimed to measure the level of
acculturation of various subethnic groups ( e.g. Korean Americans,
Mexican-born Hispanics, etc).  The benefits of this research include
verifying the validity of the survey for multiple subethnic groups (which
has not been performed in the literature to date) as well as gathering new
knowledge on the subethnic risk factors for cardiovascular disease (that
have only been measured   previously as general, homogenous ethnic groups,
e.g. Hispanics, Asians).

 

The survey (offered through www.surveymonkey.com
<http://www.surveymonkey.com/> ) will be conducted in Mid September 2007
only.  The dates are tentatively planned for Sep 10-24.  The survey takes
approximately 15 minutes and asks attitudinal, acculturation, demographic
and health history questions of students and their immediate blood
relatives.   Our target is at least 500 participants to insure we get enough
interest.  The benefit of the research will be two fold:   benefit to the
broader academic community when the findings are published and a large
student participation may help contribute to further grant funding at our
home university, Texas A& M University-Commerce.
