SUBJECT: FESTIVAL, Friday, April 1, 2005.
This is my 2nd e-mail regarding the 11th Multicultural International
Festival, Friday, April 1. This e-mail serves two purposes: 1. as a reminder
to encourage you to be thinking and planning about what your can do to be a
part of the Festival and giving me the feedback by the deadline Friday,
March 11.
2. to provide more information about each category of the activities in the
Festival.
Flag carrier: Each country can assign one person from your country to be a
flag carrier. The flag of your country will be provided by the International
Student Office. The flag carrier can dress in a native costume or in nice
attire such as dress or suit and tie. All flag carriers must meet with me in
the American Ballroom no later than 10:30am on Friday, April 1, for a
rehearsal. At 11am sharp, the flag parade will begin. The flag parade will
be led by the lion dance from the MSC building, go around the campus, and
return to the MSC in approximately 30 minutes.
If you are a flag carrier for your country, you must sign up by Friday,
March 11. I need to know which countries will be in the parade so I can
provide the flags of your countries. If I do not currently have the flag of
your country in stock, I will have to order one for you. I will need at
least 2 weeks time to allow for flag ordering and flag delivering. For this
reason, I ask that you contact me as soon as possible.
Booth attendance: Each country can request one to three 6ft. tables to use
for the demonstrations or displays form your country. The demonstrations
and/or displays can be anything that represents your cultures and your
country. You can use items such as posters, maps, video, CD, power points,
or arts and crafts, etc. to display or demonstrate. Each booth should have
one to three persons assigned to be booth attendance at all times. If you
want to be the booth attendance for your country, you must sign up by
Friday, March 11.
Food server: If you want to serve authentic food from your country, you must
provide the food. The International Student Office will reimburse you for
the cost of food up to a limit. (At this time I cannot tell what is the
maximum limit of reimbursement because I do not know how many countries are
participating in providing food. I can only estimate around $300-350 for
each country). You must provide all receipts for the food when request for
reimbursement after the Festival. You can cook the food or buy the food from
the restaurant. Each country should limit the food to not more than two
items. We'd rather spend money to pay for sufficient amount of food from
each country than to have too much variety but inadequate amount from each
country. Our intention is to have people "taste and sample" food from
different countries, not to make a complete meal out of food from one
country therefore food from each country should be served in sampling
portion only. The sooner you sign up, the sooner I will know how much money
can be reimbursed for each country. Let me hear from you by March 11.
Stage entertainment: Since this activity requires more time and more
planning, I have asked Meg Morgan to be in charge of this category. There
will be prizes for this category. If you want to participate in the stage
entertainment, please contact Meg Morgan directly (by March 11 or sooner) to
sign up and to get more information.
Note: The Festival is going to be on Friday, April 1, 11am-2pm, MSC
building. It looks like we should have one month to get ready. But because
we will also have one week of spring break (March 14-March 18), I am asking
that you start planning early. Contact us at intl_stu at tamu-commerce.edu
