[GradFacultyStaff] Dissertation and Thesis Information for 518 and 718 Students

Dear Graduate Faculty,

The Graduate School / TDS recently sent the following information to students enrolled in a 518 or 718 course.

The Graduate School/TDS is the final stage of approval at both the proposal and final thesis or dissertation stages. All TDS communications regarding your proposal or final thesis or dissertation will be sent to your myLeo email, so please check your account regularly.

The following is a brief summary of the final thesis, dissertation and proposal processes. Please visit the TDS Thesis (www.tamuc.edu/thesis<http://www.tamuc.edu/thesis>) webpage or the TDS Dissertation webpage (www.tamuc.edu/dissertation<http://www.tamuc.edu/dissertation>) for more detailed information about the thesis or dissertation and proposal process and for related forms and resources.

Final Thesis

*         Please mark your calendars with the following important dates:

o   If you intend to graduate this Summer 2022, you must submit to TDS the Notification Form for the Final Thesis Defense<https://inside.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/thesis--dissertation-services/Notification%20form%20for%20Thesis%20Defense1.pdf> at least 7 days prior to the date of the final thesis defense.

o   Final thesis submissions must be received by TDS no later than the end of the day, Friday, June 24, 2022.

*         Go to the TDS/Thesis web page<https://inside.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/Thesis%20and%20Dissertation%20Services/theses.aspx> and review items 4-6 for important information and forms related to the final thesis process.

Final Dissertation

*         Please mark your calendars with the following important dates:

o   If you intend to graduate this Summer 2022, the deadline to defend your final dissertation is Friday, June 17, 2022. The Presentation of the Final Examination/Dissertation Defense<https://inside.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/thesis--dissertation-services/Final%20Dissertation%20Defense%20Schedule%20Form1.pdf> form was due May 18, 2022. If you missed this deadline, you will have to wait for the fall semester to graduate.

o   Final dissertation submissions must be received by TDS no later than the end of the day, Friday, June 24, 2022.

*         Go to the TDS/Dissertation web page<http://www.tamuc.edu/dissertation> and review items 4-6 for important information and forms related to the final dissertation process.

Thesis Proposal

*         To receive Summer 2022 approval of your proposal document, proposal submission packets must be received by TDS no later than the end of the day, Friday, July 22, 2022.

*         Go to the TDS/Thesis web page<https://inside.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/Thesis%20and%20Dissertation%20Services/theses.aspx> and review items 1-3 for important information and forms related to the proposal process.

*         Please note your research committee approval letter (e.g., IRB approval letter) is not the same as Graduate School approval.  Graduate School/TDS approval of your proposal document is not required to begin data collection, only completion of required research training and, if applicable, research committee approval of your study.

Dissertation Proposal

*         Please mark your calendars with the following important dates:

o   The Schedule Form for Proposal Defense<https://inside.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/thesis--dissertation-services/Schedule%20Form%20for%20Dissertation%20Proposal%20Defense1.pdf> is due the 20th of the month prior to the defense date. Send the completed and signed form and a copy of the proposal document to Vicky Turner<mailto:vicky.turner at tamuc.edu> with a copy to TDS.

o   To receive Summer 2022 approval of your proposal document, proposal submission packets must be received by TDS no later than the end of the day, Friday, July 22, 2022.

*         Go to the TDS/Dissertation web page<http://www.tamuc.edu/dissertation> and review items 1-3 for important information and forms related to the proposal process.

*         Please note your research committee approval letter (e.g., IRB approval letter) is not the same as Graduate School approval.  Graduate School/TDS approval of your proposal document is not required to begin data collection, only completion of required research compliance training and, as applicable, receipt of research committee approval of your study.

Both proposal and final submissions are sent to TDS (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>). Please make sure your submission is complete. Your submission will not be considered complete until all required documents and forms are submitted with all required signatures, including the IRB, IACUC, or IBC approval letter, if applicable to your research/study. Proposals and theses or dissertations submitted after the deadline will be processed for the following semester.

TDS Deadlines for Summer 2022:
Last day to defend final dissertation* **:  Friday, June 17th
Last day to submit final thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, June 24th
Last day to submit thesis/dissertation proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for Summer 2022 approval: Friday, July 22nd

TDS Deadlines for Fall 2022:
Last day to defend final dissertation* **:  Friday, October 28th
Last day to submit final thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, November 4th
Last day to submit thesis/dissertation proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for Fall 2022 approval: Monday, November 28th (due to the Thanksgiving holiday)

* Schedule Forms<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/graduateForms.aspx> for dissertation defenses (proposal and final) are due the 20th of the month prior to the defense date (if the 20th of the month falls on a weekend or university holiday, submit the form on the working day prior to the deadline).
** Thesis students must submit the Notification Form for the Final Thesis Defense<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/thesis--dissertation-services/Notification%20form%20for%20Thesis%20Defense1.pdf> at least 7 days prior to the defense.

Early TDS submissions are encouraged. Approvals for submissions received past the deadline will be processed for review and approval for the following semester.
