Below is information regarding the alternative grade change (S/U grade option) for graduate students. Students must submit the alternative grade change form<https://dms.tamuc.edu/Forms/altgradechange> to request the grade change. This information only applies to graduate students.
1. Grades will be awarded according to the standard schedule at the close of the semester. Grades are due at 5pm on Monday, May 11, 2020.
NOTE: An S (Satisfactory) means that a student receives credit for completing a course, but the S does not count in the GPA. A U (Unsatisfactory) means that a student did not complete the course satisfactorily, but the U does not hurt the GPA.
2. Students will then have until June 5, 2020, to request to change their grading rubric from the traditional (ABC) to S/U for individual courses.
a. For master's students, grades of A, B, or C may be changed to an S and grades of D may be changed to a U.
i. The grade of S/U vacates all previous grades for the same course, but itself does not factor into GPA.
ii. The grade of S completes the course requirement.
iii. The S/U grade option is not available to nursing majors due to accreditation.
b. For doctoral students, grades of A or B may be changed to an S and grades of C or D may be changed to a U.
i. The grade of S/U vacates all previous grades for the same course, but itself does not factor into GPA.
ii. The grade of S completes the course requirement.
3. For Spring 2020 only, grades of S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory) will not be factored into institutional GPA.
4. Once students have elected to make changes to the S/U system, the student cannot later request a change to the traditional grading scale. Once a student's degree has been awarded for Spring 2020, grades cannot be changed.
5. Grade changes submitted by the faculty for grades of S/U will be denied.
6. Selecting this option may affect your Financial Aid. Please contact FAO.Web at tamuc.edu<mailto:FAO.Web at tamuc.edu> prior to submitting this form if you have questions or concerns about how this could impact you.
7. Normal function of A&M-Commerce procedures 13.99.99.R0.39<https://www.tamuc.edu/aboutUs/policiesProceduresStandardsStatements/rulesProcedures/13students/graduate/13.99.99.R0.39.pdf> will be suspended for Spring 2020.
The S/U option is a student selected choice available for Spring 2020 grades only. Since S/U is a student selected option, A&M-Commerce Policy 13.99.99.R0.05<https://www.tamuc.edu/aboutUs/policiesProceduresStandardsStatements/rulesProcedures/13students/academic/13.99.99.R0.05.pdf> does not apply.
Students who have questions about how the grade change will affect their academic standing, should contact Suzanne.Giossi at tamuc.edu<mailto:Suzanne.Giossi at tamuc.edu>.
