The Graduate School recently sent the following information to students enrolled in a 518 or 718 course.  Of particular importance is the change in the treatment of the grade of U for doctoral students.  Please be aware that beginning fall 2018, for doctoral students, grades of U now impact academic standing, including U's earned in 718.

Included in our email to students were the following Graduate School submission deadlines for Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019. If you have any students who you know are not currently registered in 518 or 718 this semester, but could still benefit from this information, please forward this information to them.

Deadlines for 518 Students


o   The Graduate School Deadlines for Fall 2018:

Ø  Last day to defend final thesis:  Friday, October 26th

Ø  Last day to submit final thesis to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, November 2nd

Ø  Last day to submit thesis proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for fall approval (spring graduation): Friday, November 23rd


o   The Graduate School Deadlines for Spring 2019:

Ø  Last day to defend the final thesis:  Friday, March 22, 2019

Ø  Last day to submit the final thesis to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, April 5, 2019

Ø  Last day to submit thesis proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for spring approval (summer graduation): Friday, April 26, 2019

Deadlines for 718 Students


o   Graduate School Deadlines for Final Dissertations Fall 2018 Graduation:

Ø  Last day to submit a schedule for final defense of your dissertation:  September 20th
Once the form is fully signed, submit to Vicky Turner in the Graduate School (Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu<mailto:Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu>.

Ø  Last day to defend final dissertation:  Friday, October 26th

Ø  Last day to submit final dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): Friday, November 2nd


o   Graduate School Deadlines for Dissertation Proposals for Fall Approval (Spring 2019 Graduation):

Ø  Schedule the proposal defense<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/Dissertationproposalscheduleform.pdf> with your advisor and committee by the 20th of the month prior to your scheduled proposal date.

Once the form is fully signed, submit to Vicky Turner in the Graduate School (Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu<mailto:Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu>).  Include a copy of your dissertation proposal

with your schedule form.

(The Graduate School will not review the proposal at this time; the proposal will be used to select a Graduate Representative to attend your proposal defense.)

Ø  Last day to submit dissertation proposals to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>) for fall approval (spring graduation): Friday, November 23rd


o   Graduate School Deadlines for Final Dissertations Spring 2019 Graduation:

Ø  Last day to submit a schedule for final defense of your dissertation:  February 20th
Once the form is fully signed, submit to Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu<mailto:Vicky.Turner at tamuc.edu> in the Graduate School.

Ø  Last day to defend final dissertation:  than March 22nd to be eligible for spring 2019 graduation.

Ø  Last day to submit final dissertation to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>): April 5, 2019 for spring 2019 graduation


o   Graduate School Deadlines for Dissertation Proposals for Spring Approval (Summer 2019 Graduation):

Ø  Schedule the proposal defense<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/Dissertationproposalscheduleform.pdf> with your advisor and committee by the 20th of the month prior to your scheduled proposal date.

The following are approximate turn-around times after the proposal or dissertation has been submitted to Thesis & Dissertation Services in the Graduate School. Papers are reviewed in the order received.



Early in semester - 15 working days

Week before Deadline Day - 20 working days
After Deadline Day - 15 working days

Please keep in mind that the thesis and dissertation review service provided by the Graduate School is not an editing service; papers that have numerous issues related to language, clarity of expression, conformity to style (APA, MLA, ACS, etc.), formatting, and so on require more time and resources to complete the review process, thus prolonging the turnaround time for all students. Please make sure that such issues are addressed prior to submitting to the Graduate School (TDS at tamuc.edu<mailto:TDS at tamuc.edu>).
