Interim Vice Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies

SUBJECT: Supplemental Graduate Assistant Funding
The Graduate School has limited funding to assist departments in recruiting new or retaining top-quality full-time graduate students to be either graduate assistants-teaching (GAT) or graduate assistants-research (GAR). Students in graduate assistant non-teaching (GANT) positions will not be eligible for this funding.
To receive funding for an additional stipend, a student must be nominated by a faculty member of the student's major department and endorsed by the department head and academic dean. Preference will be given to students of doctoral programs and low-enrollment programs. Students should not apply directly for this GA stipend supplement. Master/specialist students are eligible for an additional stipend up to $2,000 for two years. Doctoral students are eligible for an additional stipend up to $3,000 per year for three years. In order for funds to be disbursed, master/specialist or doctoral students:
* must have full admission to the nominating department's graduate degree program;
* must remain enrolled as a full-time graduate student;
* must remain as a graduate assistant in the nominating department;
* must make satisfactory progress in the nominating department's graduate degree program throughout the duration of the award.
Eligibility will be evaluated each semester.
Please submit to Ms. Amy Sims, Office of Graduate Studies, the following required documents:
* Nomination form<http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/documents/GAsupplementalfundingnominationform.pdf>
* Nomination letter from department (Nominator should make a strong case why receiving additional funds to supplement the GA stipend will make a difference in recruiting the student(s) to the university)
