Dear Elementary Music Colleagues,
Good news! The TAMU-C Music Education Cohort is ON. We have restructured the course lineup so that courses for this summer will be fully online.
The program offers a combination of coursework in music education (pedagogy, movement, instruments, conducting), music history, research, philosophy, theory, and performance study. Students also complete an independent study project on a subject of their choice within the realm of elementary music.
Features of the program:
• All classes are held during the month of June—Summer I term.
• No GRE Exam is required for admittance into the program.
• No diagnostic entrance exams in theory or history are required. All cohort students will take “Introduction to Graduate Study” as a refresher course as part of the degree.
• If you have taken Kodály or Orff Schulwerk courses within the last six years you may substitute up to eight of your credit hours for Pedagogy and Movement classes.
• You can earn up to 45 CPE hours for each methods class you take.
• All face-to-face classes will be held at the brand new, beautiful Mesquite Metroplex Center in Mesquite, Texas.

Scroll down to COHORT ADMISSION PROCESS. It outlines the steps for admittance into the program. Scroll down further to find a poster that lists which classes you will take each summer. Please note that this is a four-summer program. In general, students take all their classes together, in order, unless an unexpected event occurs. Our goal is for every student to graduate together in August 2023.
Our affordable tuition rates can be found in the Admissions page of the website. Just scroll down and click on COST PLANNING. https://new.tamuc.edu/admissions/ Prospective students are encouraged to seek out the scholarship opportunities that can be found in the FINANCIAL AID section on the same page.
If you need more time to get your materials together, you CAN register for classes without actually applying to the university. You can take up to 12 hours as a provisional student. Information can be found here: http://www.tamuc.edu/academics/graduateSchool/graduateAdmissions/default.aspx
Face-to-face classes will be very active, and we will have a lot of fun together—singing, dancing, playing instruments, composing, researching. Make no mistake—the curriculum is rigorous, as it should be. But it is a joyful journey.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
