As Venu has pointed out: Rooms 122 and 123 were designed such that the projector screen drops down in front of the white boards. Thus, you can’t use both at the same time. It would be nice to have a drop down screen installed in a corner such that both the projector and white boards could be used at the same time if desired. Best case scenario would be to have two projectors, one aimed at the front and one aimed at the corner so that someone who only uses the projector could project to the front of the room while those who use both could project to the corner and still use the white boards....or as Venu pointed out, installing a white board on the side wall would solve the problem as well. The problem with installing a screen in a corner is that it would block an entrance/exit when in use.

The flood lights in rooms 122 and 123 are mounted too low. Those who sit from the middle to the back of the room have to look through the flood light fixtures to see the board.

Room 127 has wires over the front floor from the wall leading to the projector inputs. Not only is this a physical hazard (tripping) it also looks a little trashy. Room 127 is the primary lecture room and is also utilized for most departmental seminars for outside speakers and for outreach events. For such a new science building, and 127 being the premier lecture room, it looks too trashy.

One flood light is out in room 127.

I assume orientation is heavily utilizing 127 now. A printer is set up where the overhead projector should be. Thus the room is no longer ideally set up for lecture, its primary function and furthermore, this too adds to the trashy look to the room.

General aesthetics:

Rooms 122 and 123 need a paint job and a carpet cleaning. The back of the rooms have stains on the walls where students rest their heads during lecture....so my general consensus seems to be that the building, being only 7 years old, is starting to look a little run down.
Computers need to be updated in all class rooms of science building (#STC 122, 123, 127 and 135). Also, the current set up in # 122 and 123 would not allow simultaneous use of PowerPoint and board for writing, because the projector screen covers the entire width of board. While remodeling to going to be difficult, adding an extra board to the wall will suffice.
Good afternoon:

Dan Edelman commented this morning that he is very keen on making sure all of our classrooms are up to date. Specifically he asks that I submit a list of classrooms (by room number) with a description of what they need; and a ballpark estimate of the cost to bring them up to snuff. Being as how a classroom space is about the most intimate thing we have to work with, I want to ask you to send me a note with your suggestions. I will compile all the responses into a college hit list.

OBTW, we have obtained several “smartboards” in the last few months and everyone who has used one seems to love it. So that is an option to consider. Likewise, any aging computers or projectors.
Thanks a bunch, Grady
