Hi, Grady.
I will plan to be there, and I can’t resist sending my comments...
I can only speak for myself and a few others members of the math department. However, of particular concern to me/others in the department is the wording about the non-tenure-track faculty. When we spoke of this earlier in the spring semester, you mentioned that faculty who are not tenure track but who CHOOSE to do RSCA work would still be able to keep their 24 hour load (in particular, those of us who are “Professional Track” and who are already writing grants, journal articles, etc.). However, the document does not mention anything about this. Instead, it says that the load WILL BE 30 hours. (See below.) I know that it also states that we as a college can give reassign time, and I would like to make sure this is addressed. …I hope that the college-specific version of this procedure will have this clearly spelled out, so that there is no confusion when it comes time to assign workloads…
Also, there is concern that we will need a different evaluation format for the non-tenure track faculty (we have already spoken about this earlier in the Spring semester, as well), and that the new evaluation form would certainly need to be in place before the policy goes into place, so that the faculty who ARE on the 30 hour load would be able to cut out the RSCA requirement, as mentioned in 2.2.1 below. It is important that the expectations are known as early as possible so that these faculty can adjust accordingly.
I look forward to visiting with others in the college about the reassigned time as well as the particular nuisances that will need to be addressed concerning the non-tenure track and Professional Track faculty.
Thanks,
Pamela.
2.2 Non-tenure-track faculty
2.2.1 For non-tenure-track faculty, teaching is the primary assignment, though professional development and service may be expected as well. However, there is no RSCA expectation for there faculty.
2.2.2 The normal academic teaching load for non-tenure-track faculty is 30 workload credits per year.
2.2.3 Academic teaching load should not exceed 18 workload credits in any given semester.
2.2.4 Faculty converted from tenure-track to non-tenure-track will have a workload of 30 credits per year.
2.3 Teaching loads may vary as specified by contract, but must meet minimum standards described in System Policy 12.03.
2.4 The non-instructional workload may include administrative, scholarly and service activities.

Good morning:
As you can see from the thread below we had a landmark day for faculty governance yesterday with both the Faculty Senate and Dean’s Council approving the new workload document (attached). A huge round of thanks go out to Derald Harp for his leadership and bird-dogging skills on making this happen. This is the most dramatic change I have seen since my arrival here in 2011. I am very happy to see this vote of confidence in, by, and for our colleagues.
As you can see from looking at the final procedure we need to develop a CoSEA-specific version of the workload procedure. In order to have this in place for the fall term we need to have that document ready for submission to the Provost’ office by July 5th.
I will host a meeting in the CoSEA Conference Room next Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM to begin the process of writing that document. Please join us if your schedule permits. If not, please send your comments to me via email before that date.
Major Issues to be addressed include:
1) workload credit for lab hours.
2) workload credit for supervising GAs and Adjuncts teaching labs.
3) _______________________?
