Hi, everyone.
This is a quick follow-up on the new workload policy that is supposed to go into place beginning this fall. If you are a Non-Tenure Track (NTT) faculty member who is doing research and who is choosing a 24 hour workload for the 2013-2014 school year, please remember that this workload is not automatic. You must make your intentions known ahead of time, in writing, to both your department head and the dean.
In future years, the deadline for your written notification will be July 1st. However, because this policy was written late in the summer (the first draft was due July 5th), this year only we have been given an extension to the deadline for submitting the notification. You will need to plan to do research and agree that you will be evaluated according to the standard Tenure Track evaluation form, with your percentages of teaching, research, and service being based proportionately on your job duties and time/effort allotted for each duty.
Therefore, after discussion with Grady, we have been given a deadline for this year only. If you are a NTT faculty who would like to choose the research path, please have your notification submitted "IN WRITING, IN THE DEAN'S OFFICE" by 12 noon on the first day of fall classes.
Personally, I feel that earlier is better, so that your department head and dean will have plenty of advanced notice and be able to find appropriate substitutions for courses, as needed. Also, I will know that my paperwork has been received with plenty of time.
I hope this information is useful, especially to the NTT faculty members who will be touched by this policy.
Thanks,
Pamela.
