OK-- sorry to clog up your end-of-year overflowing email boxes, but I forgot to add: "Perhaps we can replace "Adult Education" with Adult and Community Education." Probably that point is obvious, but I wanted to add it in case it isn't. ACE programs generally include the "nontraditional" students that Shannon describes below. "Nontraditional" is in quotes because some ACE programs serve students the same age as "traditional" first-year college students who did not finish high school or who (at least at CUNY and probably coming soon to a state near you) need "immersion" basic skills courses or ESL before qualifying for higher education according to "ability-to-benefit" guidelines.

I'm very happy with how it's taking shape! Thanks, Tom, for setting up the Google Doc, which I was surprised to find incredibly easy to use. Thanks, as well, for wording on transition from high school to college. That reminded me of something Peter has said about high populations of non-traditional students as well. I added a line about transitions from adult ed programs to college, though I'm not sure that captures it all as a great many of our non-traditional students won't have been involved with adult education, I think, and some may mateiculate from other types of programs as well (language proficiency institutes, for example, which may include many international students of non-traditional age).

anyway, for what it's worth.
Thanks!
Subject: [CBW_Exec] CBW Misson Statement: Almost There!

Hi all:

Now that CCCCs is done, let's see if we can't get the CBW Mission Statement done as well.

The current statement is, thanks to Tom, up at the following address:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UnoaQ_GGxJimI00hL_S762tXvExfNsJNCQP3_10lmi0/edit?hl=en&authkey=CKS2veYC

I've made a couple of minor tweaks (e.g. "benefiting"; "basic writing" rather than BW). I've also added a version of Tom's suggestion about K-12 interface: it's highlighted so that people can see what they think.

Can everyone take a last look at this, discuss this last addition, and / or make other last minor changes as they see fit to the Google Doc itself?

Almost there,

Steve
