Yes! thanks, Peter!! What a treat that would be. At least I think so.

I wonder if there might be a more formal role for Mike in this, too? Perhaps as respondent, even? Be neat to hear what he thinks about what CBW is up to and what that role could be in near future.

If there is interest in that--his own and CBW leadership.
Fantastic. Of course Mike Rose, in my view, would be more than welcome at the Wednesday workshop! Thanks Peter.
I was part of a generation of kids who saw something special about what it means to be human--something bloody and dramatic and scandalous that happened right here in America--and hip-hop was our way of reporting that story, telling it to ourselves and to the world...the story of the hustler was the story hip-hop was born to tell...hustling is the ultimate metaphor for the basic human struggles: the struggle to survive and resist...to win and make sense of it all. --from Jay-Z, Decoded (2010)
Subject: Update on Special Session at CCCC

I just got off the phone after about an hour's conversation with Mike Rose. He hasn't said yes, but he also hasn't said no. I suggested that something along the lines of his recent piece in IHE, updated for next spring's conditions, would be perfect.

He is hesitant about "getting back on the travel and lecture train." He has some severe issues with pain in his back, and traveling aggravates those problems. In recent years, he has succeeded in greatly reducing the amount of traveling he does, and he's worried that getting started again will snowball.

He also said that if he is going to go to St Louis, he would like to make the most of the trip. So he's looking around for other opportunities besides our session that he might be able to participate in. I mentioned that if he wanted to join our Wednesday workshop, we would be elated. I hope I didn't overstep my authority by mentioning the workshop. If anyone has any thoughts or connections that might give MIke another opportunity at CCCC, please let me know, and I'll pass them on.

Mike also mentioned that he was extremely happy to see Lynn's "smart and important" comments on the IHE blog in response to his piece. If he does agree to speak at our session, it may be as much the result of Lynn's posting as my "pleading." Stay tuned.
