I'd go with Kelly on this one. She's on CCCC EC and has been featured before. I have no experience. Just parroting what I've been told second and third hand.
I love the ideas already kicked about and am excited about possibility of foregrounding rich work in community colleges--like those mentioned and like that represented via Howard Tinberg. I love the idea of a featured panel that brings Peter and Lynn together with Bartholomae and/or Rose and/or Horner. Nice! (as an aside: I was just revisiting rose's Why School? and his blog. Man that stuff resonates, doesn't it.
In short, i'm eager to see such a panel (however configured) featured at next CCCC.

Also, this: was beginning convos on another possible featured panel that would come at BW from a bit more narrow focus--emerging (and recently published) research in BW, with Kelly Ritter as respondent. Asked steve lamos and perhaps Jane Stanley. This comes from out CBW 2011 conversations, and I see it as direct complement to the larger issues that may be the focus of the panel you guys are drafting.
Would it be appropriate to refer to each proposal in the other, as we'd like to see both considered as featured as they address conference theme from different and complementary angles?
Seth's labor caucus/ CBW/Diversity committee panel will also be put forward for consideration as featured but this one draws in enough groups I think it CSM stand well enough on its own.
I would, of course, be honored to do this. My presentation would grow out of the institute Kelly and I are giving at the WPA conference this summer which is growing out of the presentation that I gave with Lynn and Sugie in Atlanta. I want to examine what it means--both for universities and for community colleges--that the primary responsibility for basic writing is migrating to community colleges. For example, I would address the following:

• what are the positives and negatives of this change?
• who will be doing the kinds of important scholarship on basic writing that in the past has been done, primarily, by people at universities?
• where will grad students at universities learn about teaching basic writing?
• will universities conduct research about bw at community colleges?
• if not, will community colleges sponsor research into bw?
• will community colleges need to develop some faculty positions that include scholarship rather than a 15 hour teaching load?
• what innovations in bw are underway in community colleges today?
• where will bw instructors get their preparation for teaching in the bw classroom?

That's the kind of talk I have in mind, although I hope it will be much better developed by next year. As those of you organizing this possible featured session try to pull things together, you may find that what I have in mind doesn't mesh well with other proposals you are considering. I'll completely understand. But I thought it might help Liz and Hannah and others decide what to propose if I sketched out what I'm thinking about.

Again, I'd love to do this, but I also understand that CBW has to take advantage of this opportunity to propose something coherent, and that might not include what I've described.
This is exactly what Chris suggested to another for 2012. Well, sort
of...

The suggestion from Chris was to submit via regular channels, and he
would later sort in consultation with his notes and files gathered
from numerous similar requests. He is very encouraging. Seems
appropriate to do as Kelly suggests and add that tag, which, as she
notes, had been sucessful.
Hi, Lynn. I think we should have a featured session, with recognized
scholars of BW as headliners (you would be a great candidate, Lynn,
as would Peter!). But I don't know the process by which a session be
comes "featured": whether the CCCC program folks approach
individuals, or whether regular session proposers can ask that the s
Once we have done that, we can all decide the structures for our

In Atlanta, just before the IHE interview, when our group was
hanging out, you two talked of putting together a Featured Session
for CCCC12. Is that plan still in the works? If so, I'll not propose
an individual session or send my idea to Hannah because all
proposers are required to check off on the proposal form that we've
Liz Clark and I, as co-chairs of CBW, would like to help coordinate
panels of basic writing presentations for CCCC 2012. Please look on
this list in the next few days for a link to a Google Doc, which
will allow you to post your contact information and a very short
description of a basic writing presentation for 4C 2012. We will
look through them and link people up by theme. Remember that the
deadline is May 6, 2011, so in order to coordinate with others, you
will probably have to post your idea up there in the next week or so.
Why panels? Panels are more likely to get in the CCCC. They also
